We’re heading into the heart of the jungle to track wild orangutans, camp under a canopy of stars, and explore the ancestral lands of the Batak people surrounding the world’s largest volcanic lake, Lake Toba.
From the legendary street food of Medan to navigating river rapids in Bukit Lawang, this tour is built for the bold who want to get their boots muddy and their heart rates up!

You are embarking on an adventure to places and amongst people whose lives are very different from your own. Many aspects of life in Indonesia will seem unusual.
Remember that these are often the same aspects that make an area an exotic and attractive destination. Travel conditions can present unexpected obstacles, such as rough and bumpy roads and changeable weather.Please note we are also trekking in rainforests. Unlike Australia, these places will not have marked paths and have steep inclines. You will need to have a good level of fitness to participate in this adventure.

Food Extravaganza: Dive headfirst into of Medan’s local delights.

Deep Jungle Trekking and Wildlife Spotting: Go off-grid in Gunung Leuser National Park to see orangutans and exotic wildlife including long tail macaques, wild peacocks and Thomas leaf monkeys, gibbons, monitor lizards, and hornbills.

Jungle Camping: Experience the ultimate adventure by spending a magical night camping under the stars deep in the primary forest.

Jungle Tubing: Trade the hike back for an adrenaline-pumping tube ride down the Bohorok River rapids.

Batak Heritage: Immerse yourself in the unique traditions and ancient architecture of the Batak people at Lake Toba.

Free Day Optional Adventures: Catch some jet skiing speed on Lake Toba the world’s largest volcanic lake, carving through pristine waters with the sheer, cliffs of a prehistoric caldera as your backdrop.

THE ITINERARY
Arrival in Medan & A Warm Welcome
The tour officially begins with a welcome briefing at 3pm and bus departure at 4pm to visit Panti Asuhan Raphael a Children’s Orphanage, supported by 7 Days of FUN.
Following the orphanage we’re hitting the streets of Medan for a Welcome Dinner at a local hotspot. Tonight is all about the legendary Indonesian food, culture, a Bintang with your new travel mates and toast to the start of the expedition.

Riverside Vibes & Village Life
We’re ditching the city and heading for the jungle. Lunch will be served en route. After a scenic drive, we’ll settle into our riverside lodge in Bukit Lawang.
Use this afternoon to soak in the atmosphere: explore the vibrant local village, dive into the river for a swim, and get your gear sorted for tomorrow’s deep-jungle expedition.

Into the Deep Leuser Ecosystem
Time to earn those views. Today we start our immersive trek deep into the Leuser Ecosystem. This is your prime chance to track wild and semi-wild Sumatran orangutans in their element.
Keep your eyes peeled for Thomas leaf monkeys and gibbons as we navigate the primary forest.
Tonight, we go off-grid, camping in tents at your designated campsite near a small river, where you will experience a magical night in tents with the sounds of the rainforest all around you.

River Tubing
Wake up in the wild for another morning of exploring one of the world’s richest ecosystems. After a final jungle lunch, we’re ditching the hike back for something better, jungle tubing.
We’ll tube down together and navigate the Bohorok River rapids back to civilization. We then check into our Bukit Lawang accommodation and spend the evening at a local restaurant swapping stories from the trail.

Lake Toba
After breakfast, we enjoy a scenic transfer to Parapat, the lakeside town of Lake Toba the world’s largest volcanic lake.
From Parapat, a boat will transfer you across the vast lake to Samosir Island, the cultural heart of the Batak people.
Our hotel is positioned near bars and social spots. When you arrive you have free time so you can explore or dive straight into the local dining scene and legendary Batak hospitality.

Batak Cultural Immersion
Today is a full-throttle exploration of the island’s heritage and epic natural views. We’ll hit the historic burial sites of Tomok, the ancient stone chairs of Siallagan, and the traditional village of Huta Raja.
We’ll cap off the day with a visit to the serene Efrata Waterfall and the picturesque Sianjur Valley. We will have time today to do jet skiing for those who want to try this experience.
Tonight you will also experience our signature 7 Days of FUN Super Saturday exploring the nightlife of Samosir Island.

Farewell to the Lake
One last breakfast in Samosir Island before we catch the morning boat and wind our way back to Medan.
We will take lunch en route. After checking into our hotel, the whole crew meets at 7.30pm for a final Farewell Dinner to celebrate an epic week of adventure.

THINGS TO KNOW
1. This trip is in high demand. A deposit is required to secure your spot. Deposits must be paid by 30 April 2026. We cannot hold your booking until a deposit is received.
Once we receive your deposit, we will send you more details about the trip, including your next installment dates, if applicable.
2. Final Balance
The remaining balance is due Friday July 31, 2026. Failure to pay the balance by this date will result in forfeiting your place and deposit.

While we’ve included plenty of highlights to make this an unforgettable trip, there are a few things not covered in the package. Please review the exclusions below so you can plan and budget accordingly.

International airfares and any expenses due to flight delay or cancellation.

To secure your place on the selected tour, a $1500 deposit is required per booking per person.

The remainder of the payment is required by 31 July. Total Price is $3850.

Due to our operator agreements, If you cancel within 120 days of your booking. The deposit will be refunded minus $500 administration fee

If you cancel your booking between 120 days and 90 days prior to your expedition departure date your deposit will be forfeited in full.

If you cancel 90 days or less prior to your expedition departure date you will forfeit 100% of the expedition cost

In the event that you cancel your tour, more than 90 days prior to your departure date, all monies paid are eligible to be held as payment towards any other 7 DOF tour within 24 months of your original departure date. Please contact 7Days of FUN in this instance.

7Days of FUN are not responsible for airlines delaying or cancelling flights. In the event that a flight connection is missed due to a delayed flight or cancellation, the guest can seek compensation via the airline or using their travel insurance. In this instance. Due to the nature of this expedition, we cannot delay the itinerary for any missed flights or late arrivals.

7Days of FUN reserves the right to cancel any trip prior to departure due to reasons outside of its control or if there are too few people booked on that departure. If cancellation by 7Days of FUN is due to insufficient booking you will be offered an alternative travel date within 24 months of the original departure date or a full refund of all monies paid.

FORCE MAJEURE: In the event of 7Days of FUN is being forced to cancel an expedition for reasons of security or personal safety (e.g. civil unrest, seismic activity, pandemic etc.), the amount paid can be credited to another expedition minus administrative costs and cancellation fees charged by our operators and accommodation companies not controlled by 7 Days of FUN. Administration fees will be calculated on a case-by-case basis. While acknowledging the travel warnings posted by respective Foreign Office departments, 7 Days of FUN does not accept cancellations due to these warnings in isolation. We take into consideration information from numerous sources including reports from our local contacts in the respective country and act accordingly.
